PROJECT

Castle Irwell Phase 3

SALFORD

Castle Irwell is a 600-home project set in beautifully landscaped surroundings, creating an oasis of calm, only a short drive, bus, or cycle from the city centre.

Castle Irwell Phase 3 involved the full delivery of multi-utility works including disconnections, temporary water and electric supplies, and permanent connections. Domis Utilities completed the installation of a new substation and water infrastructure, with all elements delivered to programme and integrated seamlessly into the wider development.

Project Description

Less than a mile away from our HQ in Salford, Domis Utilities were contracted to complete the Gas, Water, Electricity & Telecom installation to 400 dwellings over 35 acres.

Two new substations were established on the site to cope with the demands of the development; a High Voltage point of common coupling was given to us some 900m away from the site, and involved the excavation, reinstatement, and installation of 1800m of 3x1c300mm2 XLPE cable.

On site, we installed approximately 2km of Low Voltage mains cable, and a further 2km of service cable; completed all mains and service jointing and terminated the services into each cut-out.

All work had to be co-ordinated with the site management team to ensure a smooth installation of all services within a single multiutility trench throughout the development.

We arranged for two temporary builders’ supplies, handled the energy metering contracts for the landlords and Electric Vehicle charging pillars, and continue to offer support to the site management team as we begin to mobilise for Phase 3

The local area

Castle Irwell

The development is set on land surrounded by the River Irwell, which was once the site of the Manchester Racecourse. A short distance from the University of Salford, and 20 minutes from Manchester city centre, benefiting from several public transport links, including four bus stops which surround the project.
